An early 20th-century brass teapot attributed to Dutch designer Jan Eisenloeffel. Its rounded silhouette, concentric engraved details and angular, natural-fibre-wrapped handle reflect the restrained geometry of the Nieuwe Kunst movement. A dark wooden finial brings a beautiful contrast to the polished brass.

A monogram is visible near the riveted spout. The design closely resembles an example in the Rijksmuseum collection in Amsterdam (BK-1966-17-B), although this individual piece has not been independently authenticated.

Condition: Polished exterior with light age-related marks and patina. Oxidation remains inside and in the spout, and the handle wrapping shows wear. Offered as a decorative antique; watertightness and food safety have not been tested.

Maker & History
Jan Eisenloeffel was a prominent Dutch designer and metalworker associated with Nieuwe Kunst around 1900. The teapot’s low rounded form, geometric engraved circles, angular cane-wrapped handle and wooden finial recall his documented brass designs.

Why we love it

We love the architectural contrast between the golden brass, dark wooden finial and textured natural-fibre handle. A beautifully restrained early Art Nouveau design.
